Shimadzu's Hemp Testing Solutions

The cultivation and production of hemp is a growing industry worldwide because of its countless commercial applications. Hemp is a renewable resource that is environmentally sustainable with a low carbon footprint. Many people are familiar with the health benefits of cannabinoids and terpenes derived from the hemp flower. But the entire plant – flowers, seeds, leaves, stalk, roots – has thousands of commercial uses. Shimadzu's Hemp Testing Solutions cover a broad range of applications, from potency testing and heavy metal analysis to pesticide screening. We supply the instruments, methods and experience necessary to get you up and running quickly. Shimadzu have been applied to natural products, food sciences, and environmental testing for decades. Whether you are an expert in analytical instrumentation or a novice, our platforms and training ensure that your laboratory will generate quality results from a wide variety of hemp samples. Our easy to use platforms save you time and money, maximizing the profits of your laboratory. Shimadzu can help you with your QA/QC testing, peak harvesting analysis and hemp research.

The Determination of CBD and general cannabinoid in Hemp Oil using HPLC

Potency testing is the starting point for most Hemp laboratories as it is important to accurately distinguish hemp from cannabis using a quantitative analysis of the material. Shimadzu offers numerous options to test potency, including the HPLC based cannabis/hemp Analyzer. A comprehensive package integrating instrument hardware, software, consumables, and analytical workflow, the cannabis/hemp Analyzer is ready to use after one day of installation and testing, and requires no time consuming method development on the part of the analyst.

Analysis of Heavy Metal Contaminants in Hemp and Tobacco Plant Using ICP-Mass Spectrometry

Plants and in particular tobacco plants, hemp tea leaves and flowers (a non-psychoactive species of cannabis) are well known to absorb trace elements from the soil and to accumulate them in their leaves. Some of these elements are toxic to humans even in minute quantities. As they grow, plants can bioaccumulate metals in their tissues that originate from the soil and water in their surroundings. The concentration of heavy metals in plants that are intended for consumption is of concern due to the potentially hazardous effects of these metals related to their toxicity. A method has been developed on ICPMS-2030 for the detection of the “Big Four” heavy metals (i.e., As, Cd, Hg, and Pb) and additionally beryllium, cobalt, chromium, nickel, and selenium (Be, Co, Cr, Ni, and Se) in a digested hemp flower (Sativa flowers) and two tobacco samples.

Determination of Cannabidiol and Additional Cannabinoid Content in Hemp Tea

Hemp Tea

Quantification of cannabinoids is essential for the accurate labelling of hemp products, for quality control, as well as to establish legality with regards to THC content. In this work, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is the method of choice for analysis of cannabinoid content in different CBD rich hemp tea samples. The HPLC-UV method used provides good linearity, low limit of detection, as well as high precision of retention time and peak area for the cannabinoids under investigation.

Complete Solutions for the Industrial Hemp Market

Hemp Brochure

Hemp in the European countries, US,  and worldwide is a hot topic because of its green nature, sustainability, and zero or low carbon footprint. While it appears most of the hemp world has been flowercentric on the health benefits of cannabinoids and terpenes, this is only the tip of the iceberg with respect to applications. The entire plant, including flower, seed, stalk, leaves and root, has 50,000 different uses. This new catalogue will present a limited number of the potential 50,000 different uses. However, Shimadzu is the only worldwide company able to provide analytical instruments, physical testing machines, and X-ray equipment for complete profiling of the hemp plant from development to the final product.
