RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC applied in EU in 2006 for the first time and restricted the use of six substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE).

With the introduction of RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU the scope was extended to medical devices (category 8) as well as control and monitoring instruments (category 9). Shimadzu products belong to these category 8 and category 9. In addition, compliance with RoHS Directive became a mandatory requirement for affixing the CE mark to the equipment concerned. Thus, compliance with RoHS Directive must be confirmed in the EU Declaration of Conformity.

Under amending Delegated Directive (EU) 2015/863 four substances are additionally restricted. The current restricted substances and maximum concentration values tolerated by weight in homogeneous materials are:

  • Lead (0.1%)
  • Mercury (0.1%)
  • Cadmium (0.01%)
  • Hexavalent chromium (0.1%)
  • Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) (0.1%)
  • Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) (0.1%)
  • Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) (0.1%)
  • Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) (0.1%)
  • Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) (0.1%)
  • Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) (0.1%)

 

Some applications are exempted from the restriction. Shimadzu makes use of some exemptions listed in Annex III and Annex IV in RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU if substitution is not possible.

 

All our products which Shimadzu Corporation places on the EU market from 22nd July 2021 are compliant to RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU and Delegated Directive (EU) 2015/863.
